Can’t move your case along because the last process server couldn’t locate or serve the person? These are the types of serves TMS Investigations specializes in. Many people won’t answer the door when they know someone is trying to serve them. It often requires either luck, or a stakeout, to get someone avoiding service. Process service companies often offer “wait time” but it’s usually only 1-2 hours at a time. Think about it, they may be holding up to a hundred papers, and spending that extra time to try to serve one paper can put them behind on dozens of others. That’s when you should consider hiring TMS Investigations to serve your avoider. Since we only take these types of service, we can put the time in to make sure they get served!
Upon receiving the case, we do a strategic background search for alternative addresses, properties and vehicles, a quick search to make sure they’re not in jail (it happens), and social media to find current pictures. Next, we set up a game plan on the best time and place to get them served. It generally involves waiting them out, or following them to another location. Most of our serves happen at the residence when they are leaving or returning home, but as private investigators we can follow them and serve them elsewhere. We often end up serving them at places like gas stations, gyms, grocery stores, or even the airport! Since we are licensed in multiple counties in Central Florida, it means most places they go we can still serve them at their destination.
Our one rule: We do not “set them up”. I know it’s tempting sometimes, but we insist on doing every service ethically and above board. Tricking them into showing up somewhere and then serving him just spells a recipe for disaster, or at least a quashed service.
Lastly, we do attempt to prove every service! Since we know these avoiders will often be “no shows” or even attempt to quash service, we do our best to document the service beyond just providing a description in the return of service. A picture or a brief video goes a long way to ensure the service sticks, and it has come in handy more than a few times!
